Chrono Trigger was the second best-selling game of 1995 in Japan, and shipped 2.65 million copies worldwide by March 2003. Nintendo Power magazine described aspects of the game as revolutionary, including its multiple endings, plot-related side-quests focusing on character development, unique battle system, and detailed graphics. The game's story follows a group of adventurers who travel through time to prevent a global catastrophe.Ĭhrono Trigger was a critical and commercial success upon release and is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games of all time. In addition, Takashi Tokita co-directed the game and co-wrote the scenario, Kazuhiko Aoki produced the game, Masato Kato wrote most of the story, while composer Yasunori Mitsuda wrote most of the soundtrack before falling ill and deferring the remaining tracks to Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu. The game's development team included three designers that Square dubbed the "Dream Team": Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Square's Final Fantasy series Yuji Horii, creator of Enix's Dragon Quest series and Akira Toriyama, character designer of Dragon Quest and author of the Dragon Ball manga series. It was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as the first game in the Chrono series. Second one is an attempt to restore all the SNES-y goodness (art, item names, UI look, etc.Chrono Trigger is a 1995 role-playing video game developed and published by Square. Is this still present as of the latest patch and/or can it be disabled to get the original graphics look restored?ĮDIT: Wow, I just discovered these two mods for the Steam version.įirst one restores the SNES translation so many of us fell in love with. One question about the Steam version though: I recall that on release it had one of those "smoothing" filters, something I hate for retro/pixel art games. it was just more "fun" overall, despite a few oddities). Normally I avoid Steam if I can with it's DRM (GOG are my go-to) but if this version has everything promised, I can live with the re-translation from the DS version, I guess (I just fired up my DS copy to remind myself and yes, I really do prefer the SNES dialog. I'd totally forgotten there was a PC port! I remember now how awful it looked and the reviews it got. I've not tried the MSU-1 patch but that would be cool! I adore the FMV they made for this game (imported a US PS1 version just for those) but feel they (understandably) aren't that well integrated so watching them outside the game is something I'm happy with if need be. Maybe it's much more complicated than it seems (I've messed with TF and it's not that hard, I felt, though). I'm a bit surprised that since there's a full-blown editor for CT on SNES (Temporal Flux) that there are not more content "addon" hacks around, especially one that ports the DS content to the SNES version. I do prefer the translation over the DS one (whether it's more authentic or not) and there are a few nice patches that fix the minor issues (censorship, etc.) and bugs on the SNES version too. being in a PAL territory where it never got released, I hired the hell out of that and FFVI from a local games rental store and bought both with a converter from the same place! I'm glad I'm not the only one to favour the SNES version. u/Newbornfromhell's 20 in 1 Theme Pack for Autobleem, rehosted by /u/jmwilkes76!
